Questions and Answers

Sign me up for a copy, please! How do I pay?

You can buy the CD-rom directly from the publisher, by sending an email to info@hyperdic.net. We accept credit card payments, and ship all over the world. You can also contact us here.

We are actively looking for wider distribution channels, and the contents of the next CD-rom version of HyperDic will probably also be available as a commercial download, directly from this website.

Help! I can't run the HyperDic CD-rom on a Mac.

Indeed, it is a bit more difficult on a Mac: you have to first launch your browser, then use your browsers' File/Open menu to go to the CD-rom, and then open the "index.htm" file found in the root directory of the CD-rom.

Once you have done all this, you might want to bookmark a HyperDic page for quicker access later on.

Can I set HyperDic up on an intranet?
Yes, when you purchase an additional license. The CD-rom comes with a standard single-user license, but various multi-user licenses are available, and can be ordered online, by following the link above.
NB: Educational institutions may set up HyperDic for 5 times the specified number of users. This means, for example, that 5 users only need the standard single-user license.
Do you have an online demo?
The full version is freely accessible on the HyperDic website.
Can I download HyperDic?

Only partially: there is a free version of HyperDic, named MiniDic, which covers an essential selection of the most frequent words in the English vocabulary. MiniDic is freely available from the download page, and consists of 1200 XHTML pages, packaged into a 1.5 MB file, compressed with tar and gzip. To unpack it, you need appropriate decompression software, and 14 MB free disk space.

For the moment, a full version of the hyper-dictionary, covering 120,000 words, is only available on the HyperDic CD-rom, though it is also envisaged to make the latest full release available as a commercial download.

Can I distribute the free version?

Yes, you may freely use, copy, modify and distribute the above-mentioned free offline MiniDic package, on any medium, without paying any fee to the copyright holder, under the terms of the standard Artistic License. You may repackage the provided files for distribution, using any alternative compression method (or without compression).

If you distribute more than a few copies, you are encouraged (but not required) to notify the publisher by email at info@hyperdic.net. We will be happy to set up a hyperlink from hyperdic.com to alternative download sites.
