HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 4th Independent Battery, Wisconsin Light Artillery was organized at Racine, Wisconsin and it mustered in July 1861. Ordered to Baltimore, Md., January 21, 1862; thence to Fortress Monroe, Va., and garrison duty there until September. It was mustered out at Brownsville May 28, 1866. It was moved to Madison, Wisconsin, June 3-18, and it was discharged June 19, 1866. The 4th Independent Battery initially recruited 151 officers and men. An additional 100 men were recruited as replacements, for a total of 251 men. The Battery lost during service 3 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 22 Enlisted men by disease. Total 25.
