HISTORICAL NOTES:
Battery "A" organized as Company "K," 2nd Wisconsin Infantry. Detached from Regiment August, 1861, and assigned to duty as Heavy Artillery at Forts Corcoran, Marcy and Ethan Allen, Defense of Washington, D. C., till October, 1861. Rejoined Regiment October 10. Permanently detached as Battery "A," 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery, December 9, 1861. Attached to Military District of Washington, to May, 1862. Whipple's Command, Military District of Washington, to February, 1863. Defense of Alexandria, 22nd Army Corps, to April, 1863. 1st Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to May, 1863. 3rd Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to December, 1863. 4th Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to March, 1864. 3rd Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to May, 1864. 2nd Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to August, 1865. Assigned to duty in the Defense of Washington D. C. at Forts Cass, Buffalo, Ellsworth, Worth, Rodgers and Willard till August, 1865. Defence of Fort Stevens against Early's attack July 11-12, 1864. Mustered out August 18, 1865.

Battery "B" organized at Milwaukee, Wis., and left State for Murfreesboro, Tenn., September, 1863. Duty at Fort Terreil, Murfreesboro, Tenn., till January, 1864. Moved to Lexington, Ky., January 4, 1864, and duty at Fort Clay, Lexington, Ky., till August, 1865. Mustered out August 30, 1865.

Battery "C" left State October 30, 1863, for Chattanooga, Tenn. Attached to 2nd Division, Artillery Reserve, Dept. of the Cumberland, to December, 1863. Garrison Artillery, Chattanooga, Tenn., to April, 1865. 3rd Brigade, 4th Division, District of East Tennessee, Dept. of the Cumberland, to July, 1865. 1st Brigade, 4th Division, District of East Tennessee, to August, 1865. Duty at Chattanooga, Tenn., till March 29, 1865. At Athens, Mouse Creek and Strawberry Plains, Tenn., till September. Mustered out September 21, 1865.

Battery "D" mustered in November 7, 1863. Ordered to New Orleans, La., February 9, 1864. Attached to the Defense of New Orleans, La., Dept. of the Gulf, to July, 1864. District of LaFourche, La., Dept. of the Gulf, to June, 1865. Defense of Washington, D. C., 22nd Army Corps, to August, 1865. Garrison at Fort Jackson till July 23, 1864, thence moved to Fort Berwick near Brashear City and duty there till June, 1865. Ordered to Washington, D. C., and there mustered out August 18, 1865.

Batteries "E," "F," "G," "H," "I," "K," "L" and "M" organized September and October, 1864. Ordered to Washington. D. C. Attached to 3rd Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to December, 1864. 4th Brigade, DeRussy's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to June, 1865.

Assigned to duty in the Defense of Washington, D. C. Company "E" at Fort O'Rourke, "F" at Fort Ellsworth, "G" and "H" at Fort Lyon ("G" also at Fort Ellsworth), "I" at Fort Farnsworth, "K" at Fort Lyon, "L" at Fort Willard, "M" at Forts Lyon, Weed and Farnsworth. Batteries "E" to "M" mustered out June 26, 1865.

The Regiment lost during service 4 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 2 Officers and 77 Enlisted men by disease. Total 83.
