I am looking for information on Col.Francis Marion Mellette of Sumter, SC who I was told served in the 4th regiment, SC troops. I can not find information on the regiment or Col. Mellette.

FRADY
I am searching for more information on my grandfather, Edward Frady b.1878? Fletcher, NC d. 1937-39? Columbia, SC in a veteran hospital somewhere in Columbia I was told. He was married to a Sarah (Kirkland) Frady. I do not know much about him, but what I do know is that he was in the Spanish American War-Cuba. He also filed for a pension April 19, 1902. He served in D42. U.S. Vol. Inf. His application No. 1284263, Certificate No. 1199333, filed from N.C. I was told there may be some major information in this pension application. I am praying this is my grandfather, Edward Frady, and if it is, I would like to know how I would go about getting/finding more information on this application and other information that I do have. The help would be most greatly appriciated, thank you.

I am looking for John Lord Brown, who in Nov., 1862 enlisted in Co. H, 5th S.C. Inf. Reserves at Abbeville. SC.
They were taken to a place called Camp Griffin. There he died of meazles on the 2nd of Feb., 1863. He is buried there, but no one seems to know where that is. I believe it was near Charleston.

Looking for information on DOC Z. MAYBERRY of Co. "M", Palmetto Sharpshooters. Was Doc his given name? Great Grandfather, HENRY COHEN MARK at age 29 enrolled for 12 months on April 13, 1861( the day after Confederate artillery, opened fire on Fort Sumter in Charleston, S.C. harbor, at 4:30 AM) at Columbia, South Carolina, and as a Musician, Private in Captain John R. R. Giles' Company D of the 5th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers. After "Reorganization" in Orangeburg, S.C., June 4, 1861, Henry appears on the Field and Staff Muster Roll as H. C. Mark Reg't. Band, 5 Reg't South Carolina Infantry. On April 13 to May 31, 1861; Enlisted Apr 13, 1861 at Union, S.C. He appears again on the Register of Payments to Discharged Soldiers; date of discharge April 30, 1862; date of payment Apl 30, 1862 signed by J. B. Hill, and on discharge form dated April 30, 1862 at Richmond, signed Capt. J. B. Hill.
Any specifics about Henry or his cousin WILLIE (William?) COHN, who also served (maybe as a LT.) and also from South Carolina will be most appreciated by this YANKEE descendant.

I am seeking any information of Private Wilson W. or William Wilson Davenport, company D, 13th SC Volunteer Infantry, McGowan's Brigade. This soldier is listed on the roster of this unit as "at Appomattox." I have recently learned this to be my great great grandfather's name, and that he would have been 31 in 1861. Looking for additional info on my great grandfather and his brother. Both were born and raised in Charleston, my great granfather was Edmond Felix O'Neill and his brother was John Jmaes O'Neill. They both enlisted in Capt. Rhett's Company of Brooks Light Artillery of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry of Lee's Reserve Battalion. John was a private and was purported to have died at Centerville, Tennessee. Edmond earned a commission as a 2nd Leutenant and captured at Gettysburg. McJUNKIN, HALL
I'm searching for any information on the Confederate service of Joseph McJunkin. He was born in Cleveland Township, Greenville District, SC about 1835. He was married to Nancy Hall and resided in Greenville and Pickens Counties of SC. I have found a Joseph McJunkin who served in Co. G, 4th SC Infantry. There is another man named Berry McJunkin in Co. G, who enlisted on the same day as Joseph. My Joseph had a brother named Berry. I have also found a Joseph McJunkin living in 1902, who is listed as a Confederate veteran who served in Co. G, 1st SC Volunteers. I find no record of a Joseph McJUnkin who served in any of the 1st Infantry units of the CSA. Joseph died in Pickens County, SC in 1915. Ant help appreciated.

I am interested in information on the steamer George Washington, destroyed near Pocotaligo in 1863.
Where was it built, how was it armed, etc. I am building a footnote for a series of letters from a soldier in the 5th South Carolina which will be published this spring.
Alos, he mentions "Yankee Rebels" when referring to enemy ships off of Charleston. Have any of you seen this sort of reference before.

BUTLER OR ANDERSON
I am interested in Col A. P. Butler, uncle of General M C
Butler of Edgefield. He wa born in 1824 and died about 1902
and was mentioned in reports for his bravery on horseback.
In later years he was in the SC House of Representatives and
later was SC agriculture commissioner. He is buried at
Sweetwater Baptist Church near North Augusta. He was my
fathers great uncle. My father was born in 1896 and was
constantly mentioning "ole Col Butler" to me but when I was
young I was too interested in other things to listen. On
the monument with his name is P A Butler w hich may have been his wife and he was the Anderson family but I dont

Alesander Wheeler was born in 1839 in Spartanburg SC He died around 1863. I have to think he was mustered at Orangeburgh SC as his brothers were. His brother Peter Carr Wheeler was killed ay Gettysburg July 1,1863. His other Brother William Wheeler my gg grandfather was in the 5th Reg SC infanty 1st Co. C. My Great, Great Grandfather Stephen S. Lever was a
soldier during the Civil War, a member of the 24th Regiment
South Carolina Volunteers. He died in a Columbia hospital
during the war ar age 42. His son, John Wesley Lever,
at age 15, was carried away by Union soldiers while working
in a field. He was never heard from again. I am looking for

My 3rd great-grandparents were Laban Christopher Chappell (1822-1891) and Catherine Porter Smith (1828-1907). Laban enlisted in Co. F, 12th SC Infantry in Sept. 1861 and served until the end. He was a Chaplain in this company. His son Oscar Fitzland Chappell (1847-1922), my 2nd great-granduncle, enlisted at the age of 17 in the spring of 1864. He served until he was captured at Petersburg on 4/3/65. Oscar was sent to City Point, Herts Island, NY on 4/9/65. Oscar was released on 6/16/65. I have copies of their war-photos on my web-page. BOZARD
Ihave seen an 1864 Confederate Army Roster for Orangeburg, S.C. that is located in the South Caroliniana Library at the University of South Carolina. One of the enlistees is James E. Bozard of Orangeburg who is in all probability my Great Great Grandfather. I would like to know which regiment he eventually went to and what sort of action the regiment saw during the last months of the Civil War. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

My grt-grandfather John Smith Brown, served in Co. C. 7th SC Inf. Regt. (known as the "Bloody Seventh"), part of Kershaw's Brigde, Army of Northern Virginia. He was the son of George Brown of Abbeville Co., SC. His father-in-law, John Lord Brown (no relation) was in the 5th SC Reserve Regt. and died at Camp Griffin of meazles in 1862. Where is the locaction of this training camp? John Lord Brown md. Rebecca Rogers (Anderson) Brough in about 1847, her second marriage. John Smith Brown married Harriet Tabitha Brown, daughter of J. L. and Rebecca R. Brown. After the war, John and harriet moved their family to the Houston Co., Tx. area.

I am looking for information concerning John A. Elgin who is buried at First Creek Baptist Church in Anderson County and his burial marker only lists his year of birth as 1821 but has a CSA marker. He fathered children as late as 1866 so I do not think he died in the war. Thanks for all help.
