Martin served in the Sc 1st Cavalry Regiment, Company B. Family bibles, his tombstone and other records indicate that he was in the Cavalry. He left Laurens during the beginning of the war and returned after the war missing an arm. The records are clear about this. They also say that he "had a 'difrent' horse when he got back."
