29th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment

Historical Notes:
The 29th Michigan Infantry was mustered into Federal service at East Saginaw, Michigan, on October 3, 1864. Among the volunteers was future Michigan state politician Edward P. Allen. The regiment was mustered out of service on September 12, 1865. The regiment suffered 1 officer and 5 killed in action or mortally wounded and 1 officer and 65 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 72 fatalities. Officers:

Attached to District of North Alabama, Dept. of the Cumberland, to November. 1864. 1st Brigade, Defences Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad, Dept. of the Cumberland, to December, 1864. 3rd Brigade, Defences Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad, to February, 1865. Unattached, 4th Division, 20th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to March, 1865. 3rd Brigade, 1st Subdistrict, Middle Tennessee, Dept. of the Cumberland, to September, 1865. Service:
Defense of Decatur against Hood's attack October 26-29, 1864. Garrison duty at Decatur, Ala., until November 24. Moved to Murfreesboro, Tenn., November 24-27. Siege of Murfreesboro December 5-12. Winchester Church December 12. Near Murfreesboro December 13. Murfreesboro December 13-14. Moved to Anderson December 27 and assigned to duty guarding Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad until July, 1865. Moved to Dechard, thence to Murfreesboro, Tenn., and garrison duty there until September 6. Mustered out September 6 and discharged at Detroit, Mich., September 12, 1865. Rosters:
