HISTORICAL NOTES:

The Maryland artillery actually consisted of 6 units which saw separate service:

Battery A, Light Artillery [1st], "Rigby's"
Battery B, Light Artillery [1st], "Snow's"
Battery D, Light Artillery

These units are maintained in the National Archives Index with separate rosters:

Baltimore, Light Artillery, "Alexander's"
Battery A, Light Artillery [2nd], "Junior Artillery"
Battery B, Light Artillery [2nd], "Eagle Artillery"
The other 3 are all together under the heading of the 1st Maryland Light Artillery Regiment. One hundred and two men are identified in the National Archives Index as belonging to the 1st Maryland Heavy Artillery Regiment, but no history has been found on this unit. Crute states that this unit did not complete organization, but that Company A was on duty in defense of Baltimore, MD.
