Whiteside's Naval Battalion GA Infantry (Local Defense)



Historical Notes:
This battalion was made up from the men who worked at the Confederate Navy facilities in Columbus. It was placed into active service several times during the war. A good source for more information is the book "Navy Gray" by Maxine Turner.

The only card found in their Compiled Service Record files is identical to that of Capt./Maj. Whitesides quoted below, not dated.

This organization was also known as Whiteside's Naval Battalion (Local Defense). It was paroled at Columbus, Geogia in May 1865.
