Cherokee Legion Infantry Regiment State Guard



Historical Notes:
The Cherokee Legion Infantry Regiment State Guard was organized at Canton, Georgia, in August, 1861, with men from Cherokee County. It consisted of one battalion of cavalry and one battalion of infantry. It was formed when the threat of Sherman's invasion loomed. They were assigned to serve along a line from West Point to Elbert County, guarding the bridges and railroads. Most of the recorded actions centered around Rome, GA. Officers:
