Georgia 109th Militia

HISTORICAL NOTES: Unlike an actual military command, most militia organizations were strictly based on men who lived within certain boundaries. In other words, you didn't enlist -- you just happened to live there. Elections were held for militia officers, and they were supposed to assemble and drill on a regular schedule. Very little of this happened during the war.

Anyone eligible for militia duty in Georgia should be listed on the January 1864 census.
