William H. Pace, Sr., was born about 1838 in Harris County Georgia and was married to a Susan Foster in 1858, making him about 23 at the time the Civil War began. Census records from 1840 past the ending of the Civil War and until the 1890 still had him established in Harris County. He lost his first wife in 1898 and marriage records in Brooks County had him married to a lady 40 years his younger during the same year. He actually applied for his Confederate Pension while living in Brooks County Georgia where he died some time around 1919 or 1920.
Children of his first marriage included my grandfather, William H. Pace, Jr., several other children to include sons named Paul, John, and a couple of others plus some daughters.
My great grandfather's application for pension, as previously stated, was
from Brooks County Georgia. The copy of the registry card placed him within
Company C, 29th Georgia Calvary Battalion.
