Private James R. Carroll
    (1838 - 17 APR 1863)
    Georgia 5th Infantry Regiment
    Company N
    Georgia 2nd Battalion Sharpshooters
    Company C
    Army of Tennessee
    C.S.A.

      Military Record:

James enrolled as a private in the 5th Infantry Regiment, Company N - May 16, 1862. He transferred to Co. C, 2d Battn. Ga. Sharpshooters in 1862, probably about July, 2, 1862. The exact date is unknown, and I have been unable to determine the Sharpshooter's assignments in late 1862 - 63, other than that they were fighting with the Army of Tennessee and most likely involved in the Battle of Murfreesboro. James died of disease in camp April 17, 1863 and is buried in the Silver Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 221, Harlem. GA.

Based on this record, James fought in the following battles:

          Corinth Campaign (April-June 1862)
          Murfreesboro, TN (31 DEC 1862 - 3 JAN 1863)
