Served in Co. D 5th GA Cavaly - Liberty Guards. The Captain was Wm? Hughes. Pension appplication disapproved 20 OCT 1904. He stated that he was born in Walthersville? Liberty County, GA. He served from the fall of 1861 to the surrender at Hillsboro, N. C. on 26 APR 1865. He stated that he had been a school teacher, and now because of age and infirmity, could earn "scarcely anything." He had earned from $125 - $150 in the years 1899 - 1902. He mentions that he has a child, unreadable who also teaches school. Application witnessed by Spalding Kenan and Warren Gardner who states that he was a member of the same regiment and company. Warren states that Richard "has no family - never was married. He has no one to do anything for him at all."
