7th Regiment, Delaware Infantry


HISTORICAL NOTES:

The Delaware 7th Infantry Regiment was organized at Wilmington, Del., for 30 days July 12, 1864. The Regiment lost 3 by disease during service. OFFICERS:
Major Hugh Stirling. Promoted to Lt. Colonel. Previously Captain of Company D, Delaware 5th Infantry Regiment.
Dyer's Compendium also lists a "Stirling Infantry Regiment for which no rosters have been found. - Organized at Wilmington, Del., August 30, 1864. Guard Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore R. R., and duty in District of Delaware till July, 1865. Mustered out July 17, 1865. Perhaps this unit was a continuation of the 7th Infantry Regiment once its commission had expired.

ASSIGNMENTS:
  • Guard duty on Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore R. R. at Havre de Grace, Oconowingo Bridge, till July.
  • Moved to Baltimore, Md., July 16, and duty in the defenses of that city till August 12.
  • Attached to 3rd Separate Brigade, 8th Army Corps, Middle Dept.
  • Mustered out August 12, 1864.
