District of Columbia 2nd Regiment, Infantry

HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 2nd Regiment, District of Columbia Infantry was organized at Washington, D.C., February 26, 1862. It was camped near Shepherdstown September 20. It mustered out September 12, 1865.

ASSIGNMENTS: Attached to Sturgis' Brigade, Military District of Washington, D.C.. to February, 1863, and 22nd Army Corps, Dept. of Washington, to March, 1864. 1st Brigade, Tyler's Division, 22nd Army Corps, to May, 1864. District of Alexandria, 22nd Army Corps, to September, 1865.

February 26	Organized at Washington, D.C. under Colonel Isaac A. Peck and Lt. Colonel Charles M. Alexander
	Attached to Sturgis' Brigade, Military District of Washington, D.C. for duty in the Defenses of Washington and Alexandria
June 7	Colonel Peck resigns
June 12	Lt. Colonel Alexander promoted to colonel
September 6-22	Maryland Campaign. Attached temporarily to 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 5th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac.
September 16-17	Battle of Antietam
September 19	Sharpsburg, Shepherdstown Ford and near Williamsport
September 20	Near Shepherdstown
October	Return to duty in the Defenses of Washington and Alexandria
1863
December	Colonel Alexander takes command of Tyler's Division
1864
March	Assigned to 1st Brigade, Tyler's Division, 22nd Army Corps, which was commanded by Colonel Alexander
May	Assigned to District of Alexandria, 22nd Army Corps
1865
February 16	Colonel Alexander musters out. Colonel William Graham takes command of the regiment
September 12	Mustered out
