6th Battalion, Confederate Cavalry


HISTORICAL NOTES:
The CSA 6th Cavalry Battalion was organized in the fall of 1863 by consolidating Jessee's Kentucky Battalion Mounted Rifles and three independent Virginia cavalry companies. It served in the Department of East Tennessee. The unit skirmished in Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina, and in December, 1864, contained about 450 officers and men. During the spring of 1865 it disbanded. OFFICERS:
Colonel George M. Jessee and Major A. L. McAfee
ASSIGNMENTS:
Assigned to the Department of Western Virginia and East Tennessee. SERVICE:
