South Carolina State Historian, A. S. Salley, began a work around the turn of the 19th Century to compile and publish the service records of South Carolina Civil War Soldiers. This first volume of the series covers the 3 Infantry Regiments known as the 1st South Carolina - Butler's Gregg's and Hagood's. A total of 4,542 men are included with their service records, rosters of the various companies, and brief regimental histories.
Our edition includes some additional genealogical and biographical notes on the men, and a bibliography for researching each of the regiments.
