Arkansas 51st Militia Regiment
HISTORICAL NOTES:
This regiment was mustered in 4 - 19 March 1860 in Sebastian County under the command of Col. Samuel L. Griffing. Col. J. B. Latham appears on the roster as Commander.
The only known Civil War-era record of the 51st Regiment is a payroll dated May 29, 1862, covering the regiment's annual muster for inspection and drill, held March 4-14, 1862, at Fort Smith.

"Fort Smith Rifles" Captain James H. Sparks January 12, 1860. Sebastian. Became the Arkansas 3rd Infantry Regiment Company A. Disbanded after the battle of Wilson's Creek.
"Bell Point Guards" Became the Arkansas 5th Infantry Regiment Company G. Disbanded after the battle of Wilson's Creek.

"Light Cavalry Company Fort Smith" Also known as "Sebastian County Cavalry" Captain Thomas Lewis May 17, 1861 Sebastian. Became the Arkansas 1st Cavalry Regiment Company B. Disbanded after the battle of Wilson's Creek.
